Artist Biography:

Catherine Lawrence had the aspiration to become an artist from a young age. She attended Wayne State University, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. Accepting a position with an afterschool drawing company, where she taught students the foundation of drawing, soon followed. She worked as an administrator, program coordinator, and children’s drawing instructor. She offers private and group art classes to teens and adults through ART Box Studio LLC and as an art instructor for adults with special abilities at Paint A Miracle. She continues to pursue a life-long exploration of art through learning, teaching, and creating.

Catherine participates in workshops and art classes, appreciating the opportunity to learn different techniques shared by other artists. Her work has won many awards in Michigan juried art shows.    

Artist Statement:

"Previous work in the automotive industry as a technical illustrator influenced my strong interest in geometric form. Inspiration comes from capturing surrounding structures with an intriguing interactive play of light, shadow, and pattern. I seek to find a unique perspective inviting the viewer to observe the simple and complex shapes found in the world around them."
